Focus on the Family Part 2: Fathers Day
PASTOR CHRIS ZIELKE   -

Discipline in this life is so important. And we all know this…be it the arts, the trades, in school, in business or athletics; whatever it is, you will never be successful without discipline. But discipline is exponentially more important when it comes to our spiritual growth. In other areas, we may be able to claim some little bit of an advantage. A tradesman is born with an eye for detail, a musician gifted with perfect pitch, or an artist blessed with amazing perspective. But none of us can claim any spiritual advantage. Truthfully, we are all born equally disadvantaged. The apostle Paul writes in Romans chapter 3 that no one is righteous. “What shall we conclude then? Do we have any advantage? Not at all! For we have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under the power of sin. As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God.”  As children of God’s amazing grace, our spiritual discipline is everything, absolutely everything! Here on Fathers day, this message is for all, but particularly for Fathers; for Men. We need the Holy Spirit to give us the desire and the power to do the will of God. Fathers, Men, we need to rely on the Holy Spirit, moment by moment, and live disciplined lives for Christ. And Fathers, Men, we need to teach this to our children and those of the next generation.
